Smoketown
Project type
Brand Image Design
Date
2021
Location
Pittsburgh, PA
One of the projects I am most proud of is the brand image design for Smoketown, a black-owned and operated food hall that will soon open in Pittsburgh’s historical Hill District. Smoketown (named in honor of the nickname affectionately given to The Hill District by the legendary Pittsburgh Courier) is a place where people can enjoy delicious food, live music, art, and culture while celebrating the rich history and diversity of the African-American community.
My design process involved researching the history and identity of the Hill District, as well as the vision and mission of Smoketown. I wanted to create a logo and a color scheme that reflected the spirit and values of the food hall, as well as the heritage and legacy of the neighborhood. I also wanted to make sure that the design was modern, appealing, and versatile, so that it could be used on various platforms and materials.
Not only did I design the brand image, but I was honored to partner with Food21 in the development of this project. This included the formation of the Smoketown Culinary Management Group, which would be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the food hall.
I am very happy with the final result of the brand image design for Smoketown, and I hope that it will help the food hall to attract and engage customers, and investors as well as to honor and celebrate the Hill District and its community.
